Elizabeth JonesElizabeth Jones, Director & Instructor

Elizabeth has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY. She received a Secondary Credential and a Masters Degree from the University of California, Berkeley, CA. She is also a graduate of the California School of Herbal Studies, Forestville, CA.

Elizabeth is on the education committee at Alliance for International Aromatherapists. She has worked to put national standards in place for Level I and Level II of aromatherapy certification.

Elizabeth plans to have a book published in 2008 and she is one of the authors in World of Aromatherapy, edited by J. Rose and S. Earle, Frog Ltd., Berkeley, CA. 1996. She promotes the use of plant energy in the form of Essential Oils, Herbs and Nutrition for her own community and nationwide.

Larry JonesLarry Jones, Co-Owner of Elizabeth Van Buren Inc. and Founder of Spectrix Analytical

Larry has over 30 years experience in the chemical industry, Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical and the Chemistry Board at the University of California, Santa Cruz, CA. At UCSC, Larry ran the central research lab specializing in Mass Spectrometer and NMR. In 1991 Larry took his nine years of Mass Spectrometer experience and applied it to the analysis of essential oils by joining his wife's aromatherapy company.

He acquired a Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) and started Spectrix Analytical. Spectrix is now one of the few private labs in the world dedicated to essential oil analysis and the only one specifically for aromatherapy. Larry gives lectures and workshops on essential oil purity and works with other chemists on essential oils to improve the quality of essential oils for therapeutic use.

Dr. Jim L. Symes, Professor of Chemistry

Dr. Symes is a scientist with over 12 years teaching experience at the University and Community College levels. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in analytical chemistry from California State University, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. He has been a College Instructor at California State University Sacramento, Monterey Peninsula College CA and Chabot College, Hayward, CA. He has been a Professor at Pasadena City College, CA, and is currently Professor of Chemistry, Department Chair, and Senior Scientist for Flora Research Cosumnes River College, Sacramento, CA.

During chemistry classes he distills selected botanicals in his newly created distilling equipment, making his classes more experiential and definitely more fragrant.

Suzy Hunt, Instructor

Suzy Hunt is a healing arts practitioner, with her own business called Whole-Self Healing. She has been involved in the healing arts for over 15 years and began incorporating essential oils and flower remedies into her practice for the past 10 years. She is also a co-founder of the College of Botanical Healing Arts and an original Board member. She has a B.A. degree and post-graduate credits in public administration. She has taken several courses in biology, including three at the college level (biology, anatomy for the body worker and anatomy for the artist). She is devoted to her work in the healing arts and working with the powerful therapeutic qualities of flower essences and essential oils.
